Retro will be the new look for 2009 and beyond. But the term retro-style furniture covers a mass of different looks from thirties Art Deco to fifties American diner, sixties swinging Britain and the chocolate browns of the seventies.

As a mainstream furniture retailer we don’t carry the really wild stuff like chrome stools or egg chairs, but we do stock a number of ranges in styles that are sympathetic to achieving the retro look.

Getting the look - on a budget

If your furniture looks about right, then getting the right feel can be achieved fairly easily with a fresh coat of paint on the walls (cheaper and easier than papering) and a few carefully chosen ‘artefacts.’ For example, posters either framed or unframed according to the desired look, can really capture the spirit of an era. Try www.allposters.co.uk for something suitable. Lamps, clocks and ornaments all help and while junk shops and boot sales are the obvious source there are some surprisingly useful items available from mainstream retailers such as Argos.

If all else fails
Well actually, this is quite a fun thing to do.  Go to the local car boot sales, check for items coming up on ebay and, often overlooked, check the small ads in the local post office and newspaper - don't forget the generation most likely to sell the sort of retro-style furniture you want is more likely to use these methods first.
