This range derives its name from the Caolinas, North and South Carolina on the Eastern coast of the USA. These were some of the earliest settled areas of the USA and developed diverse cultural identities with populations from the Carribean, Africa and Europe. The main economic activity of the Province, as it was originally known, was agriculture. Crops included tobacco and cotton produced by share croppers.
In the Carolinas, the wealthiest were able to commission or import the finest furniture from European cabinet makers. The poorest would construct their own furniture from whatever they could find or salvage. Between these two extremes were hard-working people with little spare resources, but who strove to achieve the highest standards possible. This Carolina furniture range therefore has a plain and simple design with a finish that might be described as rough and ready, or even lightly distressed, giving the furniture a weathered or used appearance. Perfect for fresh, uncomplicated interiors.
