Devonshire Old Mill Pine Single Mirror:
This mirror in the Devonshire Old Mill Pine range is made from solid pine.  It is sturdily built using a jointed and glued construction.  The mirror can be adjusted within the frame to the most convenient angle.  An ideal addition to the dressing table or even the chests of drawers from this range.
Devonshire Old Mill Solid Pine Bedroom Furniture
The Old Mill range is a high quality, fully assembled range of solid pine furniture made in the UK by Devonshire Pine Ltd.  It has a classic style that echoes the kind of sturdy, honest pieces village carpenters produced for hundreds of years.  Function took precedence over form, yet the fluted decoration on large items shows the pride taken in the work.

The Old Mill range shares the same quality features as all other products in the Devonshire Pine ranges, such as solid wood panelling to drawer bases and cabinet backs and the use of dovetailed joints in drawer construction.

All Devonshire Pine ranges are fully assembled although some larger items such as tables, beds and wardrobes may be partially dismantled to facilitate delivery.

The standard finishes for this range are Classic Wax and Rustic Wax.  All other finishes are special order items.

3704 Myths and Superstition of mirrors 2

The mirror attracts myths and superstition, perhaps more than any other item of furniture.  In Greek mythology, Perseus used his shield as a mirror when he killed Medusa.  Bram Stoker’s creation Count Dracula was a vampire and was therefore said to be invisible in a mirror.  Breaking a mirror is said to bring 7 years bad luck as it has captured the soul of the person who gazed upon it.

0405 Humble beginnings for pine furniture

In Britain at least, pine furniture was originally intended for the poorer end of the furniture buying spectrum. People of wealth commissioned their furniture from cabinet makers and would have it made in one the hardwoods, such as oak or if they could afford it, mahogany. Sometimes it would be a hardwood piece with veneers of the more expensive woods such as walnut or mahogany laid over the top.

Pine furniture might therefore have been bought by the working, or lower middle classes in Victorian Britain but the very poorest would have found the price of pine furniture unachievable and, with almost nothing to store, pointless. The wealthier sections of society might well have purchased pine furniture, not for their own use, but for the use of their army of household servants.
