Stools

Pine has been in fashion since the 1960s and today’s pine stools offer everything from Victorian styles to modern minimalist-style stools.  For those with an adventurous or artistic streak, there is also a selection of rustic stools and distressed stools in pine.  Fans of rich, warm colours will appreciate the choice of dark wood stools on offer while, at the opposite end of the spectrum, the ash stools offer excellent value as sturdy hardwood furniture in a variety of light hues.

The word stool originally applied to any form of seat and has similar roots in Old English, German and Goth languages.  It was only later, from around the early part of the 13th Century, when the introduction of the word chair from France relegated stool to meaning a seat without arms or a back.

Whatever its origins, there are still applications where a stool is far more useful than a chair.  It is much more difficult for example, trying to play a piano, sit at a bar or use a dressing table from a chair rather than a stool.
