The charming Roma collection has two big surprises: the first is that it is actually self-assembly furniture and the second is that it is made from solid pine. But clever design and careful staining and lacquering of the pieces has produced this wonderful, Art Deco-inspired, range of bedroom furniture. Most people born in the UK after 1945 will never have known just what it was like to live in a house with no bathroom and where the toilet was in a shed at the end of the garden.
This was the standard way of life for the majority of the population so, given the distance and inconvenience of visiting the toilet late at night, most people then had chamber pots in their bedrooms.
