PD Global Bergere French Painted living room furniture
The Bergere collection of painted furniture is a contemporary range that draws its inspiration from the French Rococo style of the 18th Century. Indeed, even the name is taken from a style of chair that first appeared at this time. Painted in an off-white eggshell finish, the Bergere collection features the sort of lavish, romantic flourishes and decoration that typified the Rococo style.
This is a fully assembled range although some larger items such as beds and wardrobes may be partially dismantled to facilitate delivery.
Please note: this range has a heavily distressed finish, with marks and some significant scarring. Surfaces are deliberately made to look heavily worn.
2402 Dining Table History
The concept of dining tables was probably invented by the Romans. Prior to this, and indeed for many cultures today, food would be eaten from plates and dishes whilst sitting on the floor. As the habit of using a dining table may have been common practice amongst occupying Roman forces in Israel during the time of Christ, but not amongst the native population, this presumably makes Leonardo Da vinci's painting of the 'Last Supper' inaccurate.

The Amish religious sect in North America is known for its pursuit of humility (Demut) and rejection of ostentation (Hochmut). These values are reflected in Amish furniture which is popular because of its solid construction and simple styling. However, the original Amish furniture had a painted finish that was often decorated with flowers in styles reflecting the settlers German origins. The plain styling and unpainted finish that is now regarded as typically Amish, was actually based on the furniture made by Welsh emigrants living near the Amish in Pennsylvania.
