Nest of Tables: a useful addition to the home
Nests of tables may be less popular these days but they are such a useful addition to the home. They can be used as temporary end or occasional tables, or even put to 'full time' use as, for example,
lamp tables.
We offer
nests of tables in oak and pine and in rustic and Indian styles - something to suit most dining and
living room furniture collections in fact.
Are Nest of Tables a 19th Century mystery?
It seems the first nests of tables appeared during the late 19th Century. Why this should be the case or in other words, why they did not appear earlier or later, is not clear though doubtless someone out there can advise me. I like to think it was perhaps related to changing social habits and the desire to entertain visitors to tea in a more informal fashion than sitting at a dining table. These nests of tables are highly decorated and many are in Chinese or Oriental styles, the generic term for such items being
Chinoiserie.
A 21st Century revival for nests of tables
In any case, the value of nests of tables continued to be appreciated right up to the 1960s with, for example, many fine antique nests of tables in an Edwardian style still being in evidence. The drive for minimalism in the 60s encouraged a decline in nests of tables and they became the sort of furniture only found in grannies houses, but their sheer practicality meant they have since enjoyed a sustained revival of fortune.
At Right Price Furniture we offer nests of tables in several different styles and materials, including pine, oak and painted wood.
