Devonshire Pine New Solid Oak Dining
Devonshire New Solid Oak dining and living room furniture is made throughout, as the name suggests, of solid oak timber.  This contemporary styled furniture is fully assembled and benefits from all the features of high quality cabinet furniture, such as the use of dovetailed joints on drawers, solid wood panelling to cabinet backs and solid wood panelling to drawer bases.

Supplied by the renowned North Devon company, Devonshire Pine Ltd. the New Solid Oak dining and living room furniture is completed in a tough lacquered finish that highlights the attractive colour and grain of the wood and simplifies cleaning and maintenance.

All items are fully assembled except for dining tables which have the legs removed for delivery and complete dressers which are delivered in top and bottom halves.

2601 Dressers and Sideboards A brief History

The distinction between sideboards and dressers is sometimes confused, but dressers would traditionally have been found in kitchens where food was dressed or prepared, whereas sideboards were used for food that was ready to be served to the diners.

Styles of dresser varied from region to region and were developed to accommodate different local requirements.  For example, some had a lead lined drawer that porridge was poured into and when it had cooled (and solidified) it was cut and served to staff.  Some dressers developed from dairy work whilst others evolved from the preparation of game.

0102 Oak Furniture Finishes

Oak furniture from rightpricefurniture is generally available in one of three types of finish.  They are:

1. Lacquered. The oak furniture has been stained to a colour of choice and then a clear lacquer is added. This gives the oak furniture a tougher shell which makes it far more resistant to stains, moisture and scratches.  This type of finish is the easiest to maintain and clean for oak furniture.

2. Waxed.  Our waxed oak furniture is finished in water-based stain and real wax.  Waxed oak furniture will benefit from the occasional application of solid wax furniture polish, particularly in its first few months in your home.  The sheen of the surface on the oak furniture will probably increase as you apply and buff more furniture wax.  Between wax applications, day-to-day oak furniture cleaning can be carried out with a dry duster.

3. Oiled. Oiled furniture has an oil worked into the wood that helps to bring out the colour and beauty of the grain.  Despite its name, it is not oily to the touch but offers a silky feel and appearance to the furniture.
