When the lid of the NB90S blanket box is opened to its full extent, which is nearly vertical, the two locking struts hold it in place. Lowering the lid from this position requires both struts to be moved. This means the lid will stay open for accessing the box and cannot accidentally drop until filling or emptying has been completed.
