In the beginning, TV manufacturers were most concerned with supporting the weight of the old heavy TV. In fact, the more robust the better in their belief; nevertheless, with the new trends in the industry towards the larger and more stylish slim line plasma/LCD TV’s, this naturally advanced into a necessity for a special designer series that is more apt to balance the newer sleek lines indicative of TV’s today.
Oh how things have changed since those days of the old bulky CRT TV’s that had those environmentally hostile cathode ray tubes in them. As the technology of TV's has changed dramatically, so have
TV stands. Gone are the times when high profile TV manufacturers provided a TV stand with every
TV purchase. Such manufacturers have since switched focus to the development of the technology and have let smaller manufacturing companies support the public with a full assortment of TV stands and accessories. Recently the trend of new slim line TV’s has finally prompted the changes and designs we see in TV stands today. So in order to keep pace with the modern world, TV’s and their TV stands have morphed into a wide selection, including wall mounting brackets.
One thing is still important to remember and that is whilst wall mounted TV's are now common place, with the extra abundance of A/V devices such as games consoles, set top boxes and blue ray video players the humble TV stand is coming back into its own. Its all very well having a TV mounted on the wall, but you can't (yet) mount your a/v devices on the wall and as such they need a home. A common practice now, is to mount a TV on the wall and have a TV stand below it, holding any of the usual a/v devices and concealing cables.
At the end of the day a TV stand is a piece of furniture to put your TV on, but it’s important to make sure it is both practical and useful for your home and even better if it is charismatic, too! What people may not realise or may simply miss is that there is great functionality in TV stands. TV stands can provide many resolutions, particularly for constricting living spaces where increasing your space is key. Some TV stands offer doors, swivel shelves, and storage for those items you use at or near your TV.
Will my TV fit?
Make sure you know the physical dimensions of your TV so you can buy a TV stand that will support it correctly, but don’t forget about the maximum allowable weight load for each TV stand. If the TV stand shelf will take 40kg and that is the exact amount of what you want to put on the shelf, look at stands that will take a little bit more for safety purposes.
Need a smaller TV stand?
You can try a Hi-Fi stand to support your small TV as they are narrower and more often than not adequate for the weight of a small TV. Our hi-fi stands come in solid oak, so you should be able to find something to meet your needs, but bear in mind that before you buy, make sure to check the weight limits and size of the hi-fi stand.
