More about corner units
According to
The illustrated History of Furniture by Frederick Litchfield and published in 1893, the first mention of
corner cupboards "appears to have been made in an advertisement of a Dutch joiner in "The Postman" of March 8th, 1711; these cupboards, with their carved pediments being part of the modern fittings of a room in the time of Queen Anne." Cabinet making had really taken off by the middle of the 17th Century so it is perhaps not surprising that within 50 or 60 years, someone had the bright idea of making cabinets to fit into corners.
Today wherever storage or display space is limited, the corner unit can be an invaluable addition to the furniture of a room. With a little imagination it can make an attractive eye-catching feature in its own right. Here at Right Price Furniture we offer both freestanding and wall-mounted corner units of varying complexity, from simple open shelving to enclosed units with wooden or glazed doors. Choose from pine or oak timber in designs to suit most interior decoration styles.
There is a small selection of corner units offered with painted finishes and many units can be specified in wax or lacquer finishes of various shades of light or dark. Those who have a specific painted or stain finish in mind may be able to order their chosen corner unit in an untreated state and then apply a finish to exactly match their requirements. With prices starting at around £80 for freestanding units or even less for wall units it is a tempting way to achieve a uniquely personal furniture collection.
