More about Chests of DrawersThe simple wooden chest was the multi-purpose storage solution of the medieval age. Then, during the Tudor and Stuart period, the invention of the dovetail joint meant drawers could be made in such a way that they did not easily pull apart. Drawers could now be added to the base of chests, creating mule chests, and gradually the remainder of the open chest was also replaced with drawers - resulting in the 'chest of drawers.'
The new-fangled chests of drawers were intended for the storage of linen and clothing and found primarily in the bedroom, although in today's houses they are equally likely to be found in the living room, kitchen or even the hallway. At Right Price Furniture we offer a huge choice of sizes, styles and finishes to suit all tastes and budgets. There are simple three-drawer chests right up to 10, 13 or even larger chests suitable for the most demanding of storage needs.
Prices start at less than £100 for simple chests of drawers and while we would not deny that lower cost furniture may be available from 'home style' or DIY chains, we believe our prices are the best you'll find for good quality, useable chests of drawers intended to provide good service in an attractive package. Most of the chests of drawers on offer are made of solid timber and built in the traditional manner, using solid timber panelling to drawer bases and cabinet backs. Even the lower cost, self assembly ranges are good quality, with some featuring dovetail jointed drawers and other elements normally found only in more expensive fully assembled furniture.
Choose from a wide range of woods such as the ever popular pine to the toughness and durability of oak or the more exotic tropical hardwoods. Styles range from neat minimalist contemporary designs to traditional historically-inspired designs or even the flamboyance and romanticism of French-style painted pieces. Remember, many of the chests shown here are offered in more than just one finish, so if there is a style that appeals please check to see if it is offered in a choice of waxed, lacquered or painted finish to match your requirements.
