In Britain at least, pine furniture was originally intended for the poorer end of the furniture buying spectrum. Wealthy people commissioned their furniture from cabinet makers and would usually have it made in a hardwood such as oak or, if they could afford it, mahogany. Sometimes cabinet furniture would be made of oak or beech and then veneered with more expensive woods such as walnut or mahogany. An aspect of all wooden furniture and of pine furniture in particular that sometimes confuses purchasers is the fact that as it ages it will change colour. New pine furniture fresh from the workshop is almost white in colour. However, as time passes, atmospheric conditions cause the wood to darken and yellow. It inevitable that all wax, lacquer and other finishes will exacerbate this effect to some degree.
Our DVD and CD storage units are the 21st Century equivalent of the bookcase. They offer a neat and elegant way of storing music, movies and games in keeping with the other furniture in the room. Whether you want pine CD storage & pine DVD storage in a country pine style living room, or disguised to fit into a retro-fashion bedroom, we have a storage unit to suit. There are small units for the storage of regularly used discs, to larger units holding 80 or more discs that are ideal for longer term storage. Many units are available in dark wood finishes, so if you see a style you like, check to see if it is available in a finish that matches your chosen colour scheme. The world of private musical and subsequently visual, entertainment has been a dynamic one for the past 100 years. First came the wax cylinder and then the gramaphone, then the wireless set and the television set. 78s gave way to 45s (ask your parents!) then the music cassette was rendered obsolete by the CD. Now it is the age of the ipod and MP3 player.
