The world of private musical and subsequently visual, entertainment has been a dynamic one for the past 100 years.  First came the wax cylinder and then the gramaphone, then the wireless set and the television set.  78s gave way to 45s (ask your parents!) then the music cassette was rendered obsolete by the CD.  Now it is the age of the ipod and MP3 player.

All of these developments have created a demand for new styles of furniture and currently the DVD and CD storage unit is in demand.  This is not to say that investing in such transitory items is a mistake: from a practical viewpoint, they transform untidy piles of discs into neatly catalogued libraries.  From a furniture perspective they are potentially the collectable curiosities of tomorrow, so better quality versions will still be desirable and valuable.

At Right Price Furniture we offer CD & DVD storage units that range from a simple pine rack, holding perhaps a dozen discs, to large ornate cabinets in oak or exotic hardwoods.  We sometimes receive requests for information from GCSE students planning to build their own CD units.  We are happy to try and help with specific questions but it is difficult to provide a useful response to general requests such as 'I am planning to build a CD storage unit, what advice can you offer?' (perhaps that is why so few students acknowledge receipt of our response).

General points would include: how many CDs or DVDs do I want to hold in one storage unit? In what room do I intend to keep the storage unit? What is the existing (or planned) style of this room? What materials or finish should I use to match the unit with the existing interior?  Is the complexity of design within my resources and capabilities?
