Why hasn’t my wardrobe/bed/table been delivered fully assembled?
Wardrobes and other large or heavy items of furniture are difficult to manoeuvre. This presents a risk of causing damage to property or injury to persons. To minimize these risks, large items of furniture are often partially dismantled for delivery. They are
designed to be partially dismantled, this does not detract from their quality, it does not make them ‘flat pack furniture’ and it is a practice that top quality furniture makers have been using since the middle of the 19th Century.
If you require assistance with re-assembly of the wardrobe, please tell the delivery service when they contact you to arrange the delivery date. Please note there is a charge for this service.
What do I need to know about owning wooden furniture?
Unlike plastic or metal furniture which is cold and impersonal, wooden furniture has variations in grain, pattern colour and texture that make each piece as unique as your fingerprint. It is a natural, organic material and continues to react to its environment long after it has been harvested from the living tree.
Wood will exhibit variations in colour, grain pattern and tone within individual pieces of furniture and between different items of furniture from the same range. This is not a fault but a natural characteristic of the material. Wood will also change colour as it ages. Again this is not a fault but part of the inherent characteristics of the material.
It is not unusual for wooden furniture to crack or split as the timber settles; this happens more frequently with waxed furniture and is completely normal. If you are concerned that the split may be excessive (more than 2 or 3mm wide, for example) then please send us photographs.
Wooden furniture will also swell in damp conditions and shrink in hot, dry conditions. Please do not subject your wooden furniture to areas which attract strong sunlight and heat such as conservatories.
Waxed furniture requires regular wax treatments to preserve its appearance. The wax is merely a coating on bare wood, and as such the wood will exhibit shiny marks where the wax may have been rubbed. This is natural and unavoidable.
No wooden product is entirely stain or heat resistant, although a lacquered product offers slightly greater protection. Avoid spilling liquids (including toiletries or beauty products), or placing drinks directly onto the furniture.
What is a ‘distressed finish’ or ‘distressed furniture’?
When we describe furniture as distressed, or as having a distressed finish, it means it will show a variety of imperfections to the surfaces, such as cracked, flaking or incomplete paintwork or lacquer, marks, gouges, splits or cracks to the surfaces or any other blemishes deliberately intended to create a worn, aged or re-used appearance. You may also find it helpful to see our page on
distressed furniture.
What do I need to know about owning painted furniture?
Wood and wood-based furniture has inherent inconsistencies in the absorbency of its surface. It is inevitable therefore that this will result in moderate colour variations in the finish on mass-market painted furniture, There are also variations in colour finishes depicted on the internet due to technical factors, such a lighting of the furniture when photographed, editing of images and variations between video display units (VDUs).
Paint is normally only applied to the external surfaces of furniture. Internal surfaces will either be in bare wood or a thin or mist coat.
What are Special Orders?
When goods are ordered to a non-standard specification or finish to suit the taste of an individual customer, they cannot easily be offered for resale elsewhere. In these cases they are classed as special order items. Customers who cancel a special order must therefore pay for the costs incurred by rightpricefurniture. This includes any carriage costs incurred or any charges made to us by the manufacturer.
All special orders are subject to a non-refundable deposit of 50%.
What finish can I have on my furniture?
Some ranges of furniture can be specified with a choice of different lacquer, wax or painted finishes. Please check the description of the specific item in which you are interested.
