Distressed furniture ranges and manufacturersOne of the most diverse collections of furniture comes from our supplier
PD Global. It has the most ranges in this, as in so many other categories. One of its most successful distressed ranges is the
Bergere range of painted furniture. This offers classic shabby chic at remarkably low prices. A similar range is the collection of smaller items and accessories we have placed together and called the
Epernay range. Most of these items can be found in the accessories section of the company’s own website at pdglobal.co.uk
Although in a different style, the painted
PD Global Provence Distressed Range also provides excellent distressed furniture for the living room or kitchen and at prices much lower than would be found in boutique furniture shops. Completing PDG’s line up in this section is the Pioneer range of distressed pine furniture. This is very similar to the contemporary-styled Boston range but the added distressing produces a more rugged, natural appearance.
An interesting painted finish has been achieved with the
Amiens Limewashed Collection from Northamptonshire-based
Kettle Containers Ltd. The range has a ‘wash paint’ finish which gives the same translucent white appearance as traditional limewash but in a much safer way (limewash is poisonous). Although marketed by us as the Amiens range, this heart of England company, also known as
Kettle Interiors, lists the range as Devon on its website at kettlecontainers.co.uk.
Other distressed ranges from the Kettle stable include the well established
Regency hand-finished pine bedroom furniture and the Regency’s painted equivalent, the
Victoria Bedroom Furniture range. The company’s
Hampshire Reclaimed furniture range looks every inch as if it has come from the 19th Century and the effect is further strengthened by the use of ceramic door and drawer handles. An authentic distressing treatment of the range includes the careful ‘repair’ of holes and gouges with carefully-matched fillets of replacement timber.
One of our smaller suppliers is a company called
DFP or Distressed Forest Products (see dfpl.co.uk) but it found it had a runaway success on its hands when it launched its heavy oak collection of distressed furniture called the
Trafalgar range. It has proved so popular that many other manufacturers soon brought out their own versions. More recently this little company has introduced its Radstock range which this time is made from reclaimed pine, rather than oak.
For exceptionally good value for money, the products of West Country firm
Devonshire Pine Ltd remain unbeatable. Devon’s offering for distressed furniture fans is the Distressed Oak range of bedroom, living and dining room furniture. This exhibits all the usual quality hallmarks that have become associated with this company and which can be seen at devonshirepine.co.uk. These include dovetail drawer joints and solid timber cabinet backs and drawer bases.
A similar range to Devonshire Pine’s Rustic Oak range is the Brampton range from ASL. This has a distressed finish with marks and worn corners but is perhaps more rustic in style than some wanting distressed furniture would like.
Concluding the round up of suppliers is the Sussex-based CPW or
Country Pine Warehouse. Understandably given its name perhaps, the company is an expert in all types of pine furniture – as can be seen at cpwfurniture.co.uk – and its Rough Sawn ranges of bedroom, living and dining room furniture are in a contemporary style but have been made from planks sawn ‘against the grain.’ This produces a marvellously rugged, natural, distressed effect.
